How is the job market doing? The beginning of summer witnesses a recovery of activity in recruitment as well as HR projects in general. Specialized profiles are in growing demand, as well as some COO/CIO profiles: employers wish to add the skills of profiles capable of influencing and supporting a major (r)evolution of organizations. The IT sector remains very active because the health crisis has multiplied and accelerated digital projects. IT specialists, across all seniority levels, have seen their workload increase significantly in recent months.
Has this crisis had an impact on the state of mind of employees? This imposed home office situation has de facto led to a kind of introspection by employees regarding their work, their role and their impact in the company. We have received testimonies from some cross-border candidates who have drastically reviewed their professional objectives and refuse to suffer the daily traffic and the lengthened commuting time. The result is striking because they are turning away from the Luxembourg market! Others appreciate the alternating home-office and office formula. Finally, some of them need to be in the office to be efficient and live the life of the company.
What HR issues should be drawn from it? Agility and adaptability clearly seem to us to be the watchwords of this period. Each organization has been able or has tried to adapt by reviewing and evolving its organizational model. Companies had to rethink their organization, their information systems and their relationship with employees in an unprecedented context. Human Resources professionals have been and will continue to be on all fronts. This shows how their role is at the heart of the organization, positioning themselves as advisors to executives and supporting employees in these transitions.
Are you optimistic for the coming months? Some indicators seem encouraging since the beginning of summer. However, the job market may contract further because some sectors of activity are still impacted. Nevertheless, expert positions and certain « support » functions are again in demand. We observe a willingness from employers to face this situation rather than endure it, and the recruitments planned are a sign of this state of mind.
