Human Resources Director (m/f/other)

Permanent (CDI) Full time Human Resources Executive, Leadership - C-suite level Master's Degree

About the company

The Recruiter is hiring a Human Resources Director for the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology. LIST is a leading research and technology organisation driving research, development and innovation in Luxembourg and beyond.

With around 900 employees representing more than 60 nationalities, and over 70% of its workforce working as researchers and engineers, LIST brings together a highly international, knowledge-driven community committed to advancing science and developing innovative solutions with real-world impact. In this context, the HR Director will play a key role in supporting LIST’s people, strengthening collaboration across the organisation and helping shape its future.

Your responsibilities

  • As a member of LIST’s Executive Committee, you will be a strategic partner to the CEO and senior management team, helping shape the organisation’s direction through a clear understanding of its people, culture and organisational priorities. You will define and implement an HR strategy that supports LIST’s scientific mission while responding to the realities and expectations of its employees.
  • You will steer the evolution of HR across LIST, bringing people together around a shared vision and helping the organisation navigate change. This will require more than designing policies and processes: you will listen carefully to different perspectives, understand what motivates people in a research and innovation environment, and build trust through clear communication, diplomacy and consistent engagement. You will help managers and teams understand the purpose of change, contribute to it and turn it into practical progress.
  • Working closely with the CEO, the Executive Committee and managers, you will foster constructive dialogue across the organisation. You will be expected to bring people with you, balance different interests and perspectives, and create the conditions for collaboration across teams and functions. Your ability to communicate with impact, handle sensitive matters with tact and build strong relationships will be central to your success.
  • You will anticipate LIST’s future workforce and skills needs, translating organisational priorities into workforce plans and succession strategies. You will oversee recruitment and employer-brand initiatives, ensuring that LIST attracts people with the right expertise, values and potential. You will also guide talent management, performance evaluation, career development, recognition and retention, helping employees see opportunities to grow and contribute.
  • You will shape learning and development priorities to ensure that employees and managers build the capabilities required today and in the future. By understanding what enables people to thrive, you will strengthen engagement, support professional growth and align employees’ aspirations with LIST’s evolving needs.
  • You will take ownership of the transformation of HR systems and processes, including the HR information system, to enhance employee experience and ensure reliable HR data. You will also identify opportunities to improve HR services through the responsible use of artificial intelligence, with appropriate attention to confidentiality, human oversight and sound judgement.
  • You will draw on HR analytics and relevant indicators to gain insight into workforce trends, engagement, employee satisfaction and performance. These insights will help you support evidence-based decisions, anticipate emerging issues and measure the impact of HR initiatives.
  • You will oversee the HR budget, payroll and benefits administration, and the secure, accurate management of confidential employee records. You will ensure compliance with Luxembourg employment legislation and the applicable regulatory framework, while promoting fairness and consistency in employee relations, grievance management and disciplinary matters.
  • You will maintain open and constructive social dialogue through regular exchanges with employee representatives and direct involvement in collective agreement negotiations, building mutual understanding, addressing concerns proactively and seeking balanced, sustainable solutions that serve both employees and the organisation.
  • You will promote an inclusive, respectful and engaging workplace while advancing LIST’s environmental, social and governance commitments. You will represent LIST with national and international stakeholders and partners, building relationships and negotiating agreements where appropriate.
  • Managing an HR team of approximately 20 people, you will set clear priorities, develop your colleagues and ensure that HR delivers both strategic value and high-quality operational support. Above all, you will help LIST move forward as one organisation, combining a long-term view with the ability to turn it into concrete, visible results.

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Additional HR certifications are an asset.
